The third One-Day International (ODI) game between New Zealand and Pakistan at Bay Oval witnessed itself on a standstill due to a bizarre power cut in the second innings. After the hammering in the first two ODIs, the Men in Green were playing for pride in the final game of their tour. Chasing the score of 243 in 42 overs, Pakistan looked to put up some fight against the Kiwis but the hosts looked relentless again and stood tall to clean sweep the visitors. The green shirts fell 43 runs short in the match and recorded their second ODI whitewash on New Zealand soil within eight years.

In the 39th over of Pakistan's innings, the power failure took place. Pacer Jacob Duffy, who took the run-up to bowl the fourth delivery of his seventh over to Tayyab Tahir, got dazed as the floodlights went off. The powercut surrounded the entire stadium in darkness. The matter could’ve turned ugly if the Kiwi speedster had released the ball from his hand and the batter would’ve smashed it. However, that didn’t happen and electricity was restored after a few moments.

Ben Sears bagged a second fifer in the series

Ben Sears emerged as a headache for Pakistan again in the third ODI. The New Zealand quick bowled his nine-over spell and splurged only 34 runs. Until the 16th over of the second innings, Pakistan were looking stable but Sears showcased his mettle and delivered the first breakthrough to his team in the form of Abdullah Shafique, who could’ve been dangerous.

After dismissing the opener, he got the better of Salman Ali Agha. Sears got the player of the series award for his stunning bowling in the series. Before this extraordinary performance, the 27-year-old took his maiden ODI fifer in the second match against Pakistan.
