During the 59th match of the IPL 2024, Rahul Tewatia took an amazing running catch at the mid-off region to send Ajinkya Rahane back into the pavilion. In their pursuit of a 232-run target, set by Gujarat Titans, this was the second wicket lost by Chennai Super Kings in the second over itself, which put them firmly on the backfoot.
On the first ball of the second over, bowled by Sandeep Warrier, the CSK opening batter, Ajinkya Rahane, tried to play on the up, only to chip it towards the mid-off region. Rahul Tewatia, who was standing at the mid-off position, ran more than 10 metres to stretch himself and complete a smart catch, which meant that Ajinkya Rahane’s short stay at the crease ended for on off five.
With this key wicket, Chennai Super Kings found themselves in some trouble, with their score reading 2/2, while chasing a massive total of 231/3 set by Gujarat Titans.
In the first half of this match, Gujarat Titans put on a batting masterclass in front of their fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan shared an opening stand of 210 runs, which is the joint highest in the history of the IPL.
During this big partnership, Gill registered a hundred to his name, which was the 100th in the illustrious IPL history. Meanwhile, just a few balls later, Sai Sudharsan also notched up his first hundred in the IPL, building on his fantastic campaign in the ongoing season of the tournament in style.
