Afghanistan A beat Sri Lanka A by seven wickets to clinch ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024
In the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, Afghanistan A proved why it is an upcoming best team in world cricket. Afghanistan advanced to the tournament's championship match after defeating India A, one of the clear favourites. In the summit clash, Afghanistan A took the field first and held Sri Lanka A to a respectable 20-over total of 133/7.
Sahan Arachchige of Sri Lanka A was the only batter who put up a strong fight against the Afghans. The team achieved a competitive score, thanks to southpaw’s tenacious 64-run performance from 47 deliveries. Afghanistan's best bowler was Bilal Sami, who claimed three wickets and conceded 22 runs in his four overs. With 11 balls remaining and seven wickets in hand, the team cruised through the whole run-chase. Sediqullah returned undefeated at run-a-ball 55.
Afghanistan A dominated other teams throughout the tournament. They only suffered a single defeat during the competition, which came against Hong Kong in the group stage. Since the competition began in 2013, Afghanistan has become the fourth team to win it. The first three teams to win the regional championship were India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.
