In a rare sight, both the batting and bowling teams ended up using the DRS during a game in Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023. During the game between Dindigul Dragons and Ba11sy Trichy, R Ashwin was bowling the 13th over during the latter’s innings, and the batter R Rajkumar was given out. The batter immediately asked for a review and the umpire overruled it as the bat touched the ground while the ball passed it.
After the review calls made by Rajkumar, the third umpire looked at several replays and came to the conclusion that the batter did not touch the ball. This left Ashwin miffed, and he also took a DRS call and was engaged in an animated conversation with the on-field umpires. He was of the opinion that the spike was not because the bat hit the ground, but also because the ball had come in contact with it. The third umpire, though, stuck to his decision and the Dindigul Dragons lost their review.

Speaking of the game, Ba11sy Trichy won the toss and invited their rivals to the field first. The team were all out for 120 with Ashwin bowling four overs and conceding just 26 runs. Not only this, but the off-spinner also took the wickets of Trichy’s Daryl Ferrario and skipper Ganga Sridhar Raju.
Earlier on Wednesday, the 36-year-old spinner retained his number one spot in the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings by scoring 860 rating points despite not being a part of India's playing XI in the WTC Final 2023. The Rajasthan Royals all-rounder in the Indian Premier League was benched out during the World Test Championship Final, and needless to say, the Indian team paid a heavy price for the same. The Rohit Sharma side, who made it to the final of the ‘Ultimate Test’ lost it to Australia by a huge margin of 209 runs, and the Pat Cummins side clinched their maiden WTC title.
