The match no. 19 between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore was going very peacefully until the last over which completely turned the game upside down. With the scorecard reading 154/4 in 19 overs, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja went completely berserk as he launched a serious assault on IPL 2021 Purple Cap-holder Harshal Patel which left everyone in shock. The 32-year-old notably equaled the record of Chris Gayle of scoring most runs (37) in one over in IPL history.

20th over of CSK innings - 6, 6, NB + 6, 6, 2, 6, 4

With CSK looking for some crucial runs in the final over of the innings, the left-handed batsman made his intentions clear after he struck two huge sixes off the first two deliveries over the cow corner. Patel was under some serious pressure as he completely lost the plot and bowled a no-ball which was sent into the stands once again. On a free hit, Jadeja smashed the fourth consecutive six of the over, this time over deep square leg to reach a fantastic fifty. After getting only two runs off the next ball, the CSK all-rounder finished the innings with six and a four to take his side's total to 191/4 in 20 overs.

Jadeja equals Gayle's record

The CSK all-rounder has now become only the second player to hit 37 runs in an over in history of Indian Premier League. The first player to accomplish this feat was the explosive Chris Gayle who did it while playing for RCB in IPL 2011. The Universe Boss had scored 37 runs off the over of Kerala pacer Prasanth Parameswaran. Repeating the heroics of Gayle is not an easy task but Ravindra Jadeja certainly did it in style on Sunday.
