After a long wait, Real Madrid played their first game at the revamped Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Saturday, September 2 in La Liga 2023-24. The Spanish giants have recently shared a video of their newly developed stadium, showing the functioning of the retractable pitch.
On Saturday, Jude Bellingham scored a late winner to help Real Madrid beat Getafe 2-1 in their first game at the redeveloped Bernabeu. With his goal, Bellingham joined Cristiano Ronaldo as the only two players to score in their first four La Liga games for Real Madrid.
The revamp process for the stadium began in 2019 and was designed by Spanish studios L35, Ribas & Ribas, and German studio GMP Architecten. Talking about the retractable pitch, Los Blancos took to X and shared a video of their new stadium ahead of their game against Getafe.

On Tuesday night, Real Madrid shared another video of the stadium and showed the working of the newly-developed retractable pitch. The renovation added a new pitch removal and storage system among other features.

The retractable pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu features six underground levels to cover large-scale events as the renovation reportedly raised the stadium's capacity from around 81,000 to 85,000. It also features an underground irrigation system and ultraviolet lighting to maintain the quality of the grass and a retractable roof on the top.
