While talking of this match, the Three Lions won the toss and invited the Afghan side to bat first. The opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran started strong for the side with the former add 75 runs off 53 deliveries. But Ibrahim Zadran’s innings was cut short, courtesy Adil Rahid and Joe Root’s combined effort.
But just before this wicket, the England pacer Reece Topley sustained a horrific injury while stopping a boundary near the fine leg. On the second delivery of the 16th over, Gurbaz pulled it over the fine leg with Topley, who was stationed near the boundary, moving to his right and diving in order to save the boundary. While the England player missed this save, he seemed to have a contact with the ropes as he landed awkwardly, injuring himself in the process.
The 29-year stood up in a state of worry, thus holding his right knee as he was assisted out of the field by Root. However, the injury did not seem to be a serious one for the England bowler as he was seen walking near the dug out.
