Richa Ghosh, the newest Test debutant for India, celebrated her maiden fifty in the format in style after bringing up the milestone against Australia. At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Indian women’s team are in a strong position in the one-off Test after bundling out the Australians cheaply.

The day one of the Test match belonged firmly to India, who picked up all 10 wickets of Australia for 219 runs before their top order took the score to 98/1. The first session on day 2 saw the women’s team consolidate their position but the big wicket of Smriti Mandhana fell to 74 off 106 at the same time.
Richa Ghosh, who was given an opportunity to bat at No. 4 on her debut, stitched together a vital partnership of 113 runs with Jemimah Rodrigues to keep India’s advantage in the Test match intact. During this key stand, Rodrigues brought up yet another fifty in her longer format career before Ghosh tasted similar success for the first time in her first Test appearance.

After Kim Garth picked up the big wicket of Richa Ghosh, it was Ashleigh Gardner who broke open the Indian innings with two massive scalps of the captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia in quick succession. As of this writing, India women’s team is 268/6 in 76 overs with Jemimah Rodrigues on 68 off 110, while Deepti Sharma has just arrived at the crease.
