During India’s Group A fixture against Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, wicketkeeper-batter, Richa Ghosh grabbed a brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss Fatima Sana. Earlier in the match, Pakistan Women won the toss and elected to bat first.

While the Women in Green came into this fixture on the back of a 31-run win against Sri Lanka in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener, the Harmanpreet Kaur suffered a daunting defeat at the hands of New Zealand Women on Friday, October 4. After their defeat by 58-run margin, the India Women dropped to the bottom place of the Group A standings.

The Harmanpreet Kaur, who were invited to field first, handed Pakistan their first jolt as Renuka Singh Thakur dismissed Gull Feroza on the final delivery of the first over. None of the Pakistan batters could go past 30-run mark with veteran, Nida Dar scoring the highest runs, 28 off 34. 

With Nida Dar and Fatima Sana looking good in the middle with their stroke play, the skipper hit Asha Sobhana for back-to-back boundaries in the 14th over. After being hit for consecutive boundaries, Sobhana had a quick chat with her teammates and on the final delivery the Indian bowler stuck to the plan. Fatima Sana, although was opting for a slog sweep but got an outside edge.  Just in time, Richa Ghosh stretched full towards her right, with the ball sticking onto her right hand as they got the big wicket of the captain. After the completion of the 14th over, the Pakistan Women’s scorecard read 70/6 with Tuba Hassan replacing Sana in the middle.

Speaking of the match, the Women in Green posted 105 runs at the loss of eight wickets in their stipulated 20 overs in Dubai. The 28-run stand between Nida Dar (28 off 34) and Syeda Aroob Shah (14 off 17) now is the highest for eighth wicket or below for Pakistan against India in Women’s T20Is.
