The incredible moment happened during the batting innings of Birmingham Phoenix, when the captain Moeen Ali, who had won the toss and decided to bat first, skied his attempt at a big stroke off the bowling of David Payne. The ball went high in the air, with Roelof van der Merwe hovering under it in the mid-on region.

When he steadied himself to pouch the ball safely, it popped out of his hand and ricocheted off his right shoulder. But, then, in a moment of sheer brilliance, the 38-year-old kept his eyes on the ball at all times, to take the juggling catch with his right hand, while moving his body swiftly to his right side.
Notably, Roelof van der Merwe picked up the openers of Birmingham Phoenix in quick succession with his left-arm orthodox spin, to put the hosts on the backfoot, early in the innings. Haris Rauf and David Payne also got a couple of wickets each, to restrict them to a below-par total of 112/7.
In the run chase for Welsh Fire, Stephan Eskinazi got himself off to a flyer, scoring 43 off just 18 balls, with six four and two maximums. They lost a few quick wickets in the middle portion of the innings, but the captain Tom Abell and David Willey steered their team home to a comfortable win with a six wicket margin.
