Indian captain Rohit Sharma forgot his phone at the practise venue where India warmed up on February 28. In their final group match of the Champions Trophy 2025, the Men in Blue will take on New Zealand at the iconic Dubai International Stadium on March 2. India have played a fierce brand of cricket which has got them entry into the knockouts comfortably. Rohit has led the side from the front and he will look to do the same in the remainder of the competition. India have struggled against New Zealand in ICC tournaments played in recent years but their couple of successes against the Black Caps in the World Cup 2023 will give confidence to the Asian giants.
On social media site X, a clip of Rohit is doing rounds which showed him sending a support staff member to bring his phone from the ground. In an old interview with Gaurav Kapoor, India legend Virat Kohli had revealed Rohit has the knack of forgetting his things. In May 2024, another video surfaced on social media which claimed Rohit forgot his phone at the iconic Eden Gardens.
Rohit unlikely feature in India’s playing XI vs New Zealand in Dubai
Rohit Sharma might miss India’s fixture against New Zealand. During the match against Pakistan on February 23, Rohit sustained a hamstring pull while fielding. The veteran wasn’t seen in India’s practise session on Wednesday and as per sources, the reason for his absence was the injury.
In case Rohit fails to show up against the Black Caps, Shubman Gill might be seen opening India’s batting innings with veteran KL Rahul. Shubman might also be seen holding the reins of the team in Rohit’s absence. The 25-year-old is currently the leading run-getter for India, notching up 147 runs in two games at a strike rate of 81.21. Rishabh Pant might also be seen breaking into India’s playing XI as Rahul’s promotion will require the 27-year-old’s service sin the middle-order.
