Mumbai Indians (MI) are taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium in match number 20 of IPL 2025. After winning the toss and deciding to field first, MI was met by a flurry of batting brilliance from the RCB batters as they put up a big score of 221 for loss of five wickets in 20 overs. However, one moment of brilliance for the Mumbai Indians during the first innings was a spectacular catch from South-African wicket-keeper Ryan Rickelton.
Playing the last bowl of Trent Boult’s final over, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar moved away from the stumps and attempted to flick the ball behind the stumps. After mis-timing the shot, the ball was in the air for a long time before Ryan Rickelton and another MI fielder made the chase for the catch. And in a brilliant diving effort from the MI wicketkeeper grabbed a spectacular catch to dismiss the RCB skipper as the crowd erupted to cheer a long-awaited wicket.
MI have a big total of 222 to chase in front of their home-crowd
Mumbai Indians have a mammoth task to accomplish as RCB have put up a big score of 221 losing five wickets in the first innings. After being put in to bat by MI's captain Hardik Pandya, RCB's innings was anchored by significant contributions from key batters. Virat Kohli led the charge with a knock of 67(42) runs hitting eight fours and two sixes, while skipper Rajat Patidar also reached a fifty, and scored 64(32) runs with five fours and four sixes. The innings began with an early setback when opener Phil Salt was bowled by Trent Boult for 4 runs in the very first over. However, Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal (37 off 22) stabilized the innings with their 91-run partnership, setting a strong foundation.
Later in the innings, an aggressive cameo from middle-order batter Jitesh Sharma featuring four 6s and two 4s propelled RCB to their imposing total. The wicketkeeper gave finishing touches with 40*(18) runs. For MI, the bowling attack faced challenges containing RCB's batting lineup. Trent Boult managed to make an impact with the early wicket of Salt, but the bowlers struggled to break the crucial partnerships that followed. As the match progresses, MI will need a robust batting performance to chase down the target of 222 runs set by RCB.
