Sam Billings turned out to be a star as Sydney Thunder defeated Melbourne Stars by 18 runs in match number 14 of the 2024-25 Big Bash League at Manuka Oval in Canberra. However, Billings almost lost his wicket via a run out during his innings, but he surprisingly survived as Melbourne Stars fielders didn’t appeal, which also left Glenn Maxwell in disbelief afterwards. The incident took place during the 13th over of Sydney Thunder’s innings.
While batting with Jason Sangha, Sam Billings attempted a risky single against Peter Siddle on the third ball of the 13th over by pushing it towards short third region. However, the Melbourne Stars’ fielder present at short third was quick enough to collect the ball, and made a direct hit at the non-striker while Sam Billings was completing his run. Shockingly, none of the players from the Stars appealed for a run out as Billings completed a double.
On replay, it was clearly shown that Billings’ bat was still outside the crease when the stumps were dislodged. Glenn Maxwell also couldn’t believe the blunder by his side as he said, "Are you kidding me?," when he realised that it was a run out.
