Sameer Rizvi, the newest player for the Chennai Super Kings, had a fanboy moment with RCB’s Virat Kohli after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. After CSK got the better of RCB by six wickets, Sameer Rizvi could be seen taking his cap off as a mark of respect before shaking Virat Kohli’s hand.
Regarded as one of the most talented youngsters in Indian cricket, Sameer Rizvi was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings for a whopping ₹8.40 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. The five-time IPL champions gave him his IPL debut against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their first match of the season in Chennai, showcasing their faith in the 20-year-old to deliver the goods.
Apart from the viral moment with Virat Kohli, the UP-born cricketer also shared a photo of himself with the former Indian captain, wherein both the cricketers were standing side-by-side in their respective IPL jerseys. Sameer Rizvi captioned the picture, “Forever legend.”
During the IPL 2024 opener, Sameer Rizvi wasn’t required to bat for CSK in their pursuit of a 174-run target against the RCB. Although none of the batters in the top four converted their starts to a substantial score for Chennai, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja delivered enterprising cameos, stitching together a 66-run stand to take their team over the line for a comfortable win in the 19th over.
Earlier, in the bowling side of things, Mustafizur Rahman picked up four of the top five wickets for CSK against RCB, to help restrict them to a below-par total, despite the good partnership of 95 runs for the sixth wicket between Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik.
