The Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane got a sigh of relief after he was released on bail after facing the rape-charges in 2022. The spinner is currently with the Nepal side for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series, which features Namibia and Scotland.

In the match between Nepal and Scotland which the former lost by three wickets on Friday (17 February), the opponent team took out a silent protest. The Scotland players refused to shake hands with the rape accused Nepal cricketer after the match, meanwhile they shook hands with all the other players as a courtesy.

The 22-year-old Nepalese cricketer was accused of sexually assaulting a minor and was temporarily released on his 99 th day in jail on bail, which was on 13 January 2022 by the Patan High Court. However, the bail has been challenged by the Attorney General’s Office on 3 February and the investigation in undergoing against him, under Section 219 of the Criminal Code 2074. If Lamichhane is proved guilty of the charges, he might have to serve a term of 10-12 years in prison.
