In an interview with Spanish outlet El Pais, Aguero said that Ronaldo is more of a forward player than Messi, who is more versatile and creative. The striker explained that Ronaldo has a killer instinct in front of goal, while Messi can create chances for himself and others with his dribbling and vision.
While discussing the types of goals both the legends scored he said, “How many free-kick goals were shown? Ronaldo had 15 free kicks among his top 20 goals. In 15 of Messi’s top 20 goals, he dribbled past five players.” The former Barcelona striker continued, "Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are at the same football level."

The former Man City striker's comments have surprised many given his strong friendship with Lionel Messi and his U-turn on the earlier criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo. Aguero's words echo what many other experts and former players have said about Ronaldo and Messi, who have won 12 Ballon d'Or awards between them and scored over 1,500 goals combined in their careers. The fierce rivals have also faced each other 37 times in club and international competitions, with Messi leading the head-to-head record with 16 wins, 10 draws, and 11 losses.
The rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi has defined football for the past two decades, but it may be coming to an end soon as both players are in their mid-30s and approaching the twilight of their careers.
