With the Pakistan Cup 2023 also reaching its penultimate stage, Karachi Whites locked horns with Multan in the semifinal on Friday, 17 November 2023 at the Rawalpindi Stadium. While the match saw Karachi Whites win by 43 runs with the DLS method, the second semifinal was also witness to a bizarre incident.

The new Pakistan Test skipper, Shan Masood escaped a nasty injury during the game as he along with his Karachi teammate and former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, ran into each other while attempting a catch. On the third delivery of the ninth over of Multan inning, Shan and Sarfaraz ran to take a catch near the mid-off and ended up in nasty collision with former unable to get up immediately as the latter retrieved the ball.

The impact of the collision led the Karachi Whites miss the catch of batter Sohaib Maqsood. However, soon after this incident, the match was halted for a few minutes as the newly appointed Test skipper, Shan Masood walked off the field with assistance from support staff, clutching his ankle.

With concerns over his availability in jeopardy for the Australia tour next month, a Karachi Whites official later clarified that the scans showed no serious injury to the ankle.

It is to be noted that Shan Masood was named the Test skipper of the Pakistan cricket team after Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy post the team’s ODI World Cup debacle this month. The Men in Green will depart for Australia on November 30 and will play a warm-up game against the Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval from December 6-9. However, the first Test will kick start from December 14 in Perth.
