Indian speedster Shivam Mavi had a perfect start to his international career as the 24-year-old bagged four wickets against Sri Lanka in the first T20I. Mavi led the pace attack as he provided two breakthroughs for India in his first spell. The pacer then returned to scalp another two wickets and end the night on a high. Mavi also contained the flow of runs, giving away only 22 runs in his four overs. On the back of his bowling heroics, India were able to defeat Sri Lanka by two runs in a nail-biting thriller.
While it was not the first time Mavi was bowling against top international cricketers as he has been playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for three years now, it was special because it was his first international match. The young pacer from Noida showed great discipline throughout his spell and forced Sri Lankan batters to make mistakes. As a result, India kept the visitors under the pump and eventually won the game.
With Mavi stealing the show in Mumbai, his family back in Noida looked immensely happy as they cheered for the 24-year-old. A video clip of Mavi’s parents clapping and cheering when the pacer bagged his third wicket in the match has gone viral.
As the right-arm pacer got Wanindu Hasaranga caught at mid-off at the hands of captain Hardik Pandya, his father stood up clapping passionately while Mavi’s sister, mother, and other family members cheered for their brother and son with a wide smiles on their faces.

Meanwhile, Mavi also spoke about his feelings when captain Hardik Pandya handed him the new ball. The pacer said that he always looks to take wickets with the new ball and had his plans sorted. "My main agenda is to attack first in the powerplay as I always go for lbw bowled...whether the boundaries happen or not, my mindset is to get wickets," said Mavi.
