In an unfortunate incident on June 5, Monday, a signboard at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow fell on a car, which has led to three, including a man and two women getting injured. A car is currently trapped underneath the debris, while the police and rescue teams have rushed to the scene to take stock of the situation. As per latest updates, out of the three, two women have been declared dead while the man survives with injuries.

According to the police, the signboard at the Ekana Cricket Stadium fell due to strong winds in Lucknow, earlier this evening. They also detailed that the three injured people have been shifted to a local hospital, thanks to the rescue teams at hand.

Notably, the Ekana Cricket Stadium has been in the limelight in the last few months, especially during the IPL 2023, but not for the right reasons. The pitches at the venue were criticised by the players, experts, and fans alike, for not allowing the batter to play strokes freely and put up big totals on the board consistently in the tournament. Lucknow Super Giants managed to qualify through to the Indian Premier League playoffs this year, but still, they had a difficult time adjusting to the varied and often very difficult batting conditions at this venue.

For the unversed, before the IPL had begun, in February, the Ekana Cricket Stadium pitches were renovated by the BCCI curators, according to a report published in the Times of India. This happened after UPCA curator Surender Kumar had been suspended for producing a pitch for India vs New Zealand T20I game in January, wherein the target of 100 runs became difficult for the home team to chase down with overs to spare.
