Australian top-order batter Steve Smith has confirmed his participation in the 2024 IPL season. Smith withdrew his participation from the 2023 season by not registering himself in the mini-auction which took place in December 2022. The former Australian captain last played IPL in 2021 for Delhi Capitals and has been part of four different franchises in the tournament.

Steve Smith confirmed that he will be part of the next IPL season via Instagram, where he conducted a Q&A session with his fans. When a supporter asked him about playing in the IPL, Smith stated that he will be back next season as this was a big year for the Australian national team.
He said, "I did not put my name in the auction as this is a very big year for Australian cricket. I'll put my name in next year, and if someone picks me up then, It'll be great."

Going back to Steve Smith’s IPL career, Smudge made his debut in 2012 in the now-defunct Pune Warriors. Then Smith was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals, where he played for two seasons in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. After the inaugural IPL winners were suspended because of corruption charges, he joined the Rising Pune Supergiants.
In the Pune-based franchise, he teamed up with MS Dhoni and led the side to the final in 2017. In 2019, he rejoined Rajasthan and was named the skipper in 2020. Overall, Smith has 103 matches in the lPL under his belt and scored 2485 runs, including a hundred.
