Australian batters continued their form from the Adelaide Test as Travis Head and Steve Smith scored Test tons to put the hosts in a dominating position in the ongoing third Test at The Gabba in Brisbane. The centuries came on Day 2 of the third Test after Day 1 saw rain playing a spoilsport after only 13.2 overs bowled into the day.
While Travis Head scored his successive Test ton, Steven Smith’s century came after a gap of 18 months. While it was a sigh of relief for the Australian fans to see Smith end his century drought, Smith cherished this moment to the fullest in the 82nd over of the Aussie first innings.

Smith, who had a forgettable outing in the first two Tests in the ongoing five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), got to his 33rd Test century in the 82nd over. Smith nudged Akash Deep’s delivery down to long on and went for a single to reach his hundred. Although, the Aussie batter had a muted celebration, he removed his helmet and lifted his bat towards all corner of Gabba before taking a leap in delight to celebrate this feat.
With this, Smith has now scored joint most hundreds against India (10 in 41 innings), joining the like of Joe Root (10 in 55 innings). Also he surpassed Steve Waugh’s 32 centuries number and now sits only behind Ricky Ponting, who has 40 Test centuries to his name.

However, Smith departed after reaching the three-figure mark in the very next over, courtesy a brilliant catch from Rohit Sharma. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full, outside off on the final delivery of the 83rd over to which Smith got a thick edge. Rohit dived across to his right to cling to the ball and complete a catch with Smith departing having scored 101 off 190 deliveries.
