Gujarat Titans registered their eighth win of the ongoing season as they beat Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs in the first match of Sunday’s double-header. After being invited to bat first, the Hardik Pandya-led side posted 227/2 in their 20 overs. However, some brilliant bowling from the GT bowlers restricted the visitors to 171/7 in the stipulated 20 over innings.

However, in a hilarious turn of events after the match, it was Mohammed Shami who regained the Purple Cap, reaching the top of the table with 19 scalps to his name. As he was called to take the cap, Mohit Sharma, another GT bowler was also called to present this cap to Shami. As the two GT bowlers took the stage, former Indian cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar made a big blunder this time.
As Gavaskar went on to introduce the Purple Cap winniner, he called Mohit Sharma reiterating, "Many congratulations Mohit Sharma for holding the Purple Cap, you’re getting from Shami”. Sharma was quick to respond after Gavaskar finished that he is giving to Shami. “Thanks a lot sir, but I’m giving it to Shami. I don’t want the Purple Cap,” Sharma said.

Mohammed Shami along with Mohit Sharma and Sunil Gavaskar ended up laughing after this hilarious incident. It is to be noted that Mohit Sharma ended with the figures of 4/29 in his four-over spell in the middle during the match against LSG.
Talking about GT’s performance in the ongoing edition, the Hardik Pandya-led side sit at the top of the points table with eight wins from ten matches. They will next lock horns with five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 13.
