New Zealand is hosting Pakistan in a white-ball series, which consists of five T20Is and three ODIs, putting behind their disappointing Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. On Sunday, March 16, the two teams locked horns in the opening T20I of the five-match series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch and saw the Kiwis rein victorious by nine wickets.

After being put to bat first by Michael Bracewell-led side, the Men in Green were bundled out at the score of 91 in 18.4 overs. The Salman Agha-led side faced the heat for their poor outing in Christchurch, Tim Robinson, New Zealand’s top-order batter, also grabbed the eyeballs as he produced Glenn Phillips-like catch.

With Kyle Jamieson being re-introduced into the attack by Bracewell to bowl the fifth over, he conceded two runs off the first three deliveries and then dismissed Shadab Khan. Jamieson bowled a length outside off which the Pakistan batter dabbed it behind square. Robinson, who was positioned near the left of backward point, flew across to snaffle it with both hands, replicating Glenn Phillips’ heroics.

Watch Tim Robinson’s excellent athleticism to dismiss Shadab Khan:

While his act was synonymous to that of Phillips, who has time and again executed acrobatic catches in this area, including the dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan and Virat Kohli in the recently-concluded ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. At the end of five overs, Pakistan scoreboard read 11/4 with Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha in the middle.

With a comprehensive win, the Kiwis are now 1-0 up in the five-match series. They will next take the field on Tuesday, March 18 in the second T20I, set to be played at the University Oval in Dunedin.
