The fourth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 saw Rajasthan Royals win the toss and opt to bat first. On the back of an unbeaten 82-run knock from Sanju Samson, the Jaipur-based franchise posted 193/4 in their stipulated 20 overs. Putting up a 194-run target for the Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock kickstarted the proceedings in the middle.

However, the KL Rahul-led franchise did not have a start they were expecting as Trent Boult drew the first blood in Quinton de Kock in the opening over of the Lucknow inning. As things moved on with Boult returning to bowl the third over and his second, his short-of-a-length delivery rammed Devdutt Padikkal’s helmet.

On the first delivery of the third delivery, Padikkal who was on strike, missed a short ball, hitting the flush on the grill of his helmet. While the LSG physio was quick to rush to the ground and conduct a protocol concussion check, he was handed a new helmet.
