On Saturday, January 20, the South African wicket-keeper batter, Tristan Stubbs smashed a maximum outside the Kingsmead stadium in Durban during match 12 of the SA20 tournament. The 23-year-old scored an unbeaten fifty, during a key partnership with Marco Jansen, to help the Sunrisers Eastern Cape complete a five-wicket win against the hosts Durban Super Giants.

In pursuit of the 160-run target, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape had a tough start in the powerplay, losing two of the top three batters Dawid Malan and Tom Abell for single-digit scores. The opener Jordan Hermann also struggled during his innings, scoring just 25 runs off 26 balls before getting trapped LBW by Keshav Maharaj.

It led to Tristan Stubbs joining the captain Aiden Markram of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the middle at Kingsmead with a tough run chase ahead. Both the star batters of South African cricket managed to stitch together a 56-run stand to keep their team in the contest against a very impressive bowling unit of the Durban Super Giants.

After Aiden Markram lost his wicket for 38 off 29 to Marcus Stoinis, Partick Kruger didn’t trouble the scorers either, putting the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in all sorts. But, Tristan Stubbs stayed unperturbed, and with an able partner in Marco Jansen, he brought his team back into the contest before finishing it off in style in the final over.

Stubbs and Jansen shared an unbeaten 66-run partnership in nearly double quick time, wherein the South African wicket-keeper batter hit the ball from Reece Topley out of the Kingsmead stadium. Earlier in the day, Heinrich Klaasen also hit the biggest six of the ongoing SA20 season off the bowling of Liam Dawson, which landed on the roof of the stadium at 105 meters.

Thanks to the blitz hitting from Heinrich Klaasen and the fifty from Wiaan Mulder, the Durban Super Giants scored a fighting total of 159/7 in their allotted 20 overs after Simon Harmer registered figures of 4/18 in his spell.
