The match between Yorkshire and Derbyshire at the County Championship 2023 saw a funny but unfortunate moment as umpire Anthony Harris fell on his back after he stumbled while evading the ball. The incident occurred on September 3, the first day of the game, after Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean put up a 50-run partnership.

Bean was playing on 11 when he hit a straight drive, down the ground to the left of Harris off a full toss from Derbyshire seamer Anuj Dal. As the ball went towards the long-on boundary, the umpire turned on his left and tried to watch the ball while moving backwards from his position, but he seemed to have lost his balance.  In a comical way, Harris quickly took multiple steps backwards and stumbled on the ground in the process. The crowd and the commentators burst out laughter as Harris got back up to signal for a boundary.

Speaking of the match, Wayne Madsen scored 93 runs in the second inning of his 200th first-class appearance for Derbyshire, just missing out on a century. The opening pair of Fin Bean and Adam Lyth scored 100 in the second inning within 21 overs, marking their sixth consecutive Championship stand above 50. Yorkshire, who defeated Derbyshire at Chesterfield in June, is on track to earn their second victory of 2023.
