In match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in the first match of the double-header Sunday (April 21). While it was Faf du Plessis who won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first, the KKR posted 222/6 in their stipulated 20 overs.
While it was Philip Salt storm up the order, the RCB bowlers gave a much-needed breakthrough as they restricted KKR to 75/3 after six overs. But a crucial half-century from Shreyas Iyer and a nine-ball 24* from Ramandeep Singh, the hosts posted a competitive total. On the other hand, it was Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, who took the guards in their green jerseys in pursuit of the 223-run target.
But the RCB were handed a massive blow with Virat Kohli departing at the score of 18 off seven deliveries. Harshit Rana, who came to bowl his second over, completed a caught and bowled to dismiss the former RCB skipper. But his dismissal saw drama unfold in the middle with Kohli going up to the third umpire for referral. With the third umpire, Michael Gough announcing his decision with the ball dipping below the waist, the RCB skipper and Virat Kohli both seemed unhappy of the decision.
In the videos going viral, the star batter seemed to be unhappy with the umpire's decision and walked up to the on-field umpires. The 35-year-old also used some abusive words on his way back to the pavilion, fuming at his dismissal.

AB de Villiers reacts after Virat Kohli’s dismissal
The wicket of Virat Kohli did not rest well among several fans and pundits of the game. Former RCB batter AB de Villiers took to X (formerly Twitter) to lash out at the disappointing dismissal of Kohli.
“Grey areas in the game open up room for anger and confusion. It’s not a tough fix this. Get the batter’s stance, draw the lines and use ball tracking. No confusion whatsoever,” he wrote on X.
