Indian batter Virat Kohli jokingly patted Sri Lankan veteran Angelo Mathews in their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 matchup in Mumbai. Batting first, T eam India put forth another incredible b atting effort as they put up 357 runs led by Shubman Gill's 92 and an 88 by Virat Kohli.

But in the tenth over of the first innings, Virat Kohli engaged in banter with the Sri Lankan allrounder in a light-hearted incident. Kohli jokingly patted his bat towards Mathews as he completed a run at the non-striker’s end. Watch the video here:
Further talking about the Indian innings, Shreyas Iyer also made a massive contribution as smashed a stunning 82 in 56 balls with three fours and six sixes. Talking about this performance, Iyer spoke about how he needed to take some in the early moments of his knock and then took the aggressive route.

Speaking in the mid-innings show, he said, "I think it was a pretty good wicket to bat, the ball was coming on and there was some nice bounce. I could settle for a while and then play my shots. It was magnificent to watch (on the partnership between Gill and Kohli), the way they took the singles, twos and the boundaries, they laid the platform for us. We were told that the oddball was stopping and holding a bit, so it was a good partnership that they had and it helped us later on."
