Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis combined for a 97-run opening partnership as the Men from the Island country beat Team India by six wickets. Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal picked three wickets including both the openers and kept the Men in Blue's hopes high.
Team India registered a target of 174 runs against Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup 2022 Super Four fixture on Tuesday as skipper Rohit Sharma played a flamboyant inning of 72 runs in 41 balls.
When Sri Lankan batters were all over the Indian bowlers, Yuzvendra Chahal pulled a much-needed breakthrough as he dismissed opener Pathum Nissanka (52) and Charith Asalanka (0) in the 12th over. He then dismissed Kusal Mendis through lbw in the 15th over and it pleased the Indian side in such a way that star batter Virat Kohli kissed Chahal on his forehead.

Apart from Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav scored 34 runs while the lackluster performance by KL Rahul continued as he was dismissed on six runs while Kohli returned to the pavilion on a four-ball duck.
Sri Lankan batters were on another level and raced towards the target, however, Indian spinners Chahal and Ashwin picked four wickets in the middle overs and forced the game to the last over.
