Star India batter Virat Kohli’s 50th ODI century was featured in the Epic sporting moments of the 2023 calendar year at the Laureus Sports Awards 2024. The globally recognised award ceremony took place in Madrid on Monday, April 22. The former Indian captain surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record and recorded his 50th ODI century during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards honoured several sporting marvels and celebrated peak performances in various sporting dynamics. The night saw tennis dynamo Novak Djokovic and Aitana Bonmati receiving the Sportsman of the Year Award and Sportswoman of the Year Award, respectively. Apart from them, the Spain Women’s Football Team went home with the Laureus World Team of the Year Award. 

Virat Kohli’s 50th ODI ton takes center stage at Laureus World Sports Awards

Indian batting wizard Virat Kohli took centre stage at the 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid. His 50th ODI ton was featured in the epic moments category at the award ceremony. The 35-year-old cricketer completed the half-century of his century during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. 

He became the first player to reach the historic landmark and went past Sachin Tendulkar’s mark of 49 tons with his presence at the stadium as he played a brilliant knock of 117 runs.
