Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram was in the headlines post Pakistan’s shocking defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. While he lashed out at the Pakistan team for their on-field performance, also question their fielding and fitness, the former Pakistan cricketer has come into limelight for all different this time.

The cricketer turned commentator, while speaking on a show on Pakistan TV channel was put into the radar for using casteist slur. During the show, ‘The Pavilion’ on A Sports, Akram who sharing his side of the story and experience while doing the live shows on the field in hot and humid conditions, said that they use sweat patches all over the body in the scorching heat.

“When we have to do one-one-an-half hour shows from the field with the shirt on and sweat patches all over, it looks grose. The talent should also feel good but we all look like those ‘cha***r’”, he said. The video of the incident is doing rounds on social media, with the former cricketer receiving flak for his choice of words.

Talking about the match between Pakistan and Afghanistan which was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side registered the second highest total in World Cups and highest target chased by the side in ODIs. It was also the Afghan’s first-ever win over Pakistan in ODIs, setting another upset at the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023.
