Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades locked horns in the 52nd match of Big Bash League 2022-23. The Renegades captain won the toss and invited the Scorchers to bat first. However, the decision turned out to be a flop as Perth got to a flying start with Stevie Eksinazi and Cameron Bancroft scoring 87 runs within 7.3 overs. The Scorchers then capitalized on this flying start and scored a massive 212/5 in their 20 overs.
Bancroft led the charge for Perth with an unbeaten 95 off just 50 balls. Meanwhile, the Renegades have very little to cheer about. But there was one moment of brilliance from one of the Renegades' fielders that left everyone awestruck. Will Sutherland pulled off an absolute screamer while fielding at mid-off for the Renegades.
On the second delivery of the 17th over of Perth Scorchers’ innings, Tom Rogers bowled a slower delivery on the fuller length against Nick Hobson. The batter, meanwhile, tried to loft it over mid-off aiming for a boundary. Hobson almost got it right but Sutherland spoiled his plans by grabbing the ball way short of the ropes.
The amazing part about the catch was Sutherland running backwards and plucking the ball while swirling mid-air.
Although the catch did not make much of a difference in the result of the match, it was an incredible effort from Sutherland. The commentators were also left amazed with how Sutherland managed to hold on to the catch despite not being in the best position.
