Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a stellar spell on his debut for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club in One-Day Cup. The side announced Chahal’s arrival on the squad just less than an hour ahead of their final game of One-Day Cup, saying he would be available for the game as well as for the remaining red-ball season. Chahal made it to the lineup against Kent, for whom he had played three games in County Championship last year.
The game saw Kent choosing to bat first, but their decision didn’t prove to be beneficial for them as Marcus O’Riordan was dismissed by Justin Broad in the first over. Later, Luke Procter dismissed Joey Evison and Harry Finch. Broad then went on to dismiss Jack Leaning for Kent to be at 15-4 in 5.3 overs.

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who came into attack in the 13th over of the innings, recorded exceptional figures of 5/14 in his 10 overs including five maidens. The cricketer who is aiming for a comeback in the Indian team dismissed Jaydn Denly, Ekansh Singh, Grant Stewart and Nathan Gilchrist to claim a fifer. In the game, Kent lost their last six wickets for just 33 runs. Notably, in the previous season, Chahal picked up a total of nine wickets in two of their final three Division One matches.
Northamptonshire head coach John Sadler lauded Chahal for joining the side for the final One Day Cup fixture and five County Championship games. He said, “Yuzvendra is another high-profile overseas player who brings with him a wealth of experience and some incredible skills. His record speaks for itself and his wicket-taking ability will add strength to our attack.”
