Former India cricketer and a bowling great, Zaheer Khan recently made a big statement on taking up a coaching role in the senior men’s national. Speaking at an event in Kolkata ahead of the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants, the former India seamer was enquired if he would take up the coahcing role in the Indian team.

It is to be noted that Zaheer Khan is currently serving as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants after Gautam Gambhir parted ways with the side to take up the head coach role with the Indian team after Rahul Dravid’s departure. His appointment also marked his return in the cash-rich league after his association with Mumbai idnians from 2018 till 2022.

Speaking at an event in Kolkata ahead of LSG’s match against KKR at the Eden Gardens, the LSG mentor was enquired if he would be up for a coaching role in the senior Indian national team. To this, the 46-year-old quickly replied,”It would be an honour to coach Team India.”

It is to be noted that currently, former South Africa cricketer, Morne Morkel is serving as the bowling coach of the Indian national team whereas Gautam Gambhir is the head coach of the men’s national team. The 2011 ODI World Cup, the former speedster retired from international cricket in 2015.

Despite his retirement, he continued to play in the IPL for two more years, finally bringing his boots down in 2017. He then took up the coaching role with MI before ending his stint in 2022.
