Australia Women’s captain Alyssa Healy took a dig at husband and Australian pacer Mitchell Starc for his comments on Healy’s teammate and bowler Kim Garth. Australia Women are currently engaged in a multi-format series against South Africa, and after the successful completion of the T20I leg, the tour has now moved to the ODI leg. In the second ODI of the series at North Sydney Oval, Mitchell Starc shared his thoughts about Kim Garth’s length in the game.
However, Healy, known for her sharp wit and brilliant wicket-taking skills came up with a humorous reply and said that he is being ‘ultra-critical’ of Garth. On the sidelines of the match, Starc told Healy, “Saw the length of the opening pair there, Schutt and Kimmie Garth. Do you reckon they could have bowled a fraction fuller with the help of the wicket? You got catches there for Garth. But, you know, it was holding length and she bowled, really disciplined lines and lights, but maybe a fraction fuller to get those edges.”
Watch the playful banter here:
Healy came up with a playful response to Starc’s suggestion and said, “I think we are being highly critical here, like you are suggesting then yes, Kimmie Garth could have come a fraction fuller. But that is the natural length that she likes to hit and that’s her role within our team. To get the ball moving and to keep it tight down that end as well. So, yes, if we are being ultra-critical then maybe. But, saying that, I think they did a great job to hold as well.”
Needless to say, the playful banter triggered laughter in the commentary box, and the video went viral in no time. Talking about the series, Australia won the T20I series 2-1 and are currently leading the ODI series 1-0.
