After winning the Test series and taking down the West Indies in the first ODI, Team India got slumped in the second ODI by six wickets. The defeat against West Indies got the Men in Blue a lot of criticism and wrath from several big names, which includes former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad. Prasad made some harsh comments on the Asian Giants and said that apart from Test cricket, the Indian cricket team has performed very ordinarily in the other two formats. Not only this, but the former Indian fast bowler also said that we have become used to celebrating mediocrity.
During the second ODI, star players like skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested, and the absence of big names from the team cost them an entire game. The unexpected defeat of the Indian team left many furious, and Prasad is one of them.
The former India great took to Twitter to rant out at the Men in Blue, and said, "Test cricket aside, India has been very ordinary in the other two formats for quite sometime now. Lost odi series against ban, SA and Aus. Poor in the last two T20 World Cups. Neither are we an exciting team like England nor brutal like how the Aussies used to be.”
Prasad didn’t stop there, and he went on to say that the Indian team is far away from how champion teams are. The 53-year-old added, “Despite the money and power, we have become used to celebrating mediocrity and are far from how champion sides are. Every team plays to win and so does India but their approach and attitude is also a factor for underperformance over a period of time.”
Notably, the Indian side will lock horns with the Caribbean rivals in the series decider on August 1 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
