Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya looked confident after his team’s seven-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Chasing a low score of 144, the visitors looked extraordinary and pulled off the target in 15.4 overs. Veteran opener Rohit Sharma shone with his bat in the second consecutive game and played an incredible knock of 70 off 46. He was supported by Suryakumar Yadav, who scored an unbeaten 40 off 19. Riding on their batting heroics, Mumbai crushed SRH for the second time in the tournament. Earlier, MI handed a four-wicket loss to the Orange Army at the Wankhede Stadium on April 17.
After the match, MI skipper Pandya talked about his captaincy tactics and also showed faith in young spinner Vignesh Puthur, who bowled only one over in the game and went for 15 runs. The 31-year-old also looked satisfied with his team’s performance against Pat Cummins and his men. "Captaincy sometimes is about instincts, I like to see the game and react and not always rely on pre-made plans. (On bowling spinner Vignesh Puthur) At that point, we wanted them to take a chance and give us a wicket. Young guy, had not played a couple of games, was tough for him and I understand. We can get better in all departments, we discussed about being very clinical and very smart. We will take it game by game. We are very satisfied with this win," said Hardik after his team’s convincing win against the IPL 2016 champions.
SRH lose their sixth game in the competition
With the hammering against Mumbai, SRH have now registered their sixth defeat in eight outings. To keep their playoffs-qualification hopes alive, Cummins and co. will have to win their next game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chepauk Stadium on April 25.
Like SRH, Chennai have also looked downbeat in this tournament with only two wins and six defeats in eight matches. The upcoming contest between the two sides will be do-or-die as the losing side of this encounter will be almost ruled out of the tournament.
