After clinching the Asia Cup 2023, the Men in Blue now move on to the next challenge, that is the three-match ODI series against the five-time World Champions Australia. The top two sides will lock horns with Australia in a three-match ODI series, starting 22nd September with the final match being played on 27th September at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

Just days ahead of the start of the three-match ODI series, the BCCI Selection Committee-led by Ajit Agarkar along with skipper Rohit Sharma named the squad with the 50-over World Cup in mind. While the squad saw some surprise inclusions, like R Ashwin, who makes a return after a longtime, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Washington Sundar have also been named in the side, who apparently were set to travel for the Asian Games 2023.
While the three-match ODI series was divided in two parts as the squad for the first two matches is different from that of the final ODI, where the players set to be part of the ODI World Cup make a return. Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav, who is the lone wrist spinner in the 50-over World Cup squad has also been rested for first two ODIs.

Talking about Kuldeep, Rohit Sharma took a moment to address the exclusion and explained, “We don’t want to over-expose Kuldeep Yadav and hence we have rested him”.
It is to be noted that Kuldeep Yadav in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023, scalped nine wickets in the five matches he featured, taking a five-wicket haul in one and a four-wicket haul in the other.
