Pep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, has made a big statement after guiding his club to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title on June 10, Saturday. He called out Read Madrid, the Spanish club football giants, by stating that “The Citizens” are coming to catch them on their record 14 UCL titles very soon.

At the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday night, Manchester City defeated Inter Milan by 1-0, thanks to a wonderful strike from Rodri at close range to secure the all-elusive champions league crown at long last. With this fine victory, they also became the second team after Manchester United, to achieve the monumental feat of winning the treble in the United Kingdom.

Fabrizio Romano, the esteemed football journalist, shared a quote from Pep Guardiola from the post-match press conference, which read, “Be careful Real Madrid, we’re 13 UCLs away but we're coming for you. We are on our way! If you sleep a little bit, we will catch you.” The Spanish head coach, albeit jokingly, made this wild statement, but still, he has been a major part of the historic rivalry with Real Madrid while managing Barcelona a few years ago.

Notably, Pep Guardiola added a lot of new major honours to his resume as a manager last night. He became the first-ever men’s coach ever to win the European Treble on multiple occasions. He did it with two different teams in two different countries, firstly in Spain with Barcelona in 2008/09 and then in England with Manchester City in 2022/23. Furthermore, Pep Guardiola laid his hands on the champions league title for the first time in 12 years, after winning it with Barcelona in the 2010/11 season.

Meanwhile, he also helped Manchester City join the esteemed list of teams, who have won the treble in European football, including the likes of Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Celtic, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and PSV.
