Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an absurd claim on India’s loss in the World Cup 2023 final. Banerjee claimed that India could have won the World Cup if the final had taken place in Kolkata or Mumbai. Banerjee was addressing party workers at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on November 23, Thursday, where she commended the Indian cricket team.
Banerjee praised the Indian cricket team for their remarkable performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Not only this, but she also said that the team would have won if the final had taken place either in Mumbai or Kolkata. Banerjee addressed the crowd and said, “We are proud of our Indian players, and I believe that we would have won the World Cup if the finals had taken place in Kolkata or Wankhede (in Mumbai).”
She added, "The Indian team played so well that they won all the matches in the World Cup, except the one attended by the sinners.” Notably, the ODI World Cup 2023 final took place on November 19, Sunday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After remaining undefeated throughout the tournament, the Men in Blue lost the final clash to Australia by six wickets.
The Indian cricket team will now lock horns with Australia in a five-match T20I series starting on November 23 in Visakhapatnam. The 2007 World Cup winners will be led by Suryakumar Yadav.
