Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara issued a major update on the replacement for Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna at a team event in Jaipur. The Royals, on March 12, unveiled their special all-pink jersey which will be donned in their #PinkPromise match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 6 2024. Alongside Sangakkara, the event included Sports Minister (Government of Rajasthan) Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Rajasthan Royals Chairperson Ranjit Barthakur and Rajasthan Royals Chief Executive Officer Jake Lush McCrum.
Earlier in the day, the BCCI released a statement confirming that Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2024. The Indian board further revealed that Krishna underwent surgery on February 23 on his left proximal quadriceps tendon and hence will not be fit to play in the IPL. The Karnataka speedster is currently rehabbing at the National Cricket Association in Bengaluru.
Sangakkara on possible Prasidh Krishna replacement
When asked by SportsTiger about a possible replacement for Prasidh Krishna, Kumar Sangakkara revealed that the team will focus on in-house options first and then look for options from the player pool. The former Sri Lankan captain said, "Prasidh Krishna is a huge and tremendous loss. He's an exceptional cricketer. He's playing for India. He's got great skill. And it's a big loss for all of us."
We, of course, are very much in touch with all of our players, especially Prasidh, supporting him through this very difficult time. He was in the UK for surgery as well. So we will wait and see and assess the options that we will have coming with us, ahead of the start of the season. Once we have a very good look at the options that are out there, we give eyes on them, then we can make a better-informed decision. So more often than not, we'll be looking first for a local option."
