During the seventh and final round of the West Indies Championship match, Veerasammy Permaul and Kevlon Anderson of Guyana Harpy Eagles got charged with “changing the condition of the ball” while playing against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. After the umpires laid the charge on both players, they were given a hefty fine, and following that, the offence was admitted and the sanction was accepted by them.
As per the report from ESPNcricinfo, on-field umpires Christopher Taylor and Leslie Reifer Jnr brought the charges in regards to changing the condition of the ball against the Guyana Harpy Eagles players. It led to Veerasammy Permaul getting fined 75% of his match fee due to breaching the Level 2 of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Code of Conduct, while his teammate Kevlon Anderson was fined 90% of his match fee for a similar offence, and both of them have followed the order of the match referee Michael Ragoonath.

Apart from imposing a fine on both the players, the CWI informed that the ball was changed on both the instances when its condition was altered, allowing the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force the option to choose the ball. Among these two players, Veerasammy Permaul has experience of playing international cricket for West Indies, making 17 appearances in total across formats.
Meanwhile, in another incident from the same match, Ronaldo Alimohamed of Guyana Harpy Eagles was fined 65% of his match fee for breaching the CWI Code of Conduct Article 2.1-2.5 after being found guilty in a hearing when he had initially denied the charge. He was set to get fined 60% of his match fee, but it was increased a further 5% due to not accepting the charge first time of asking: “Throw the ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near player or official in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner”.
