The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced Team India's squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against West Indies, which is scheduled to take place from August 3 to 13, on Wednesday and the squad has seen several changes from the previous T20I series which they played against New Zealand in January-February. While players like Shubman Gill, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya retained their spots, some players have missed out on selection.
After the Kiwi series, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal have retained their spots in the T20I set-up. Here in this article, we will see about three players who have missed out on the squad from the previous T20I series.
1. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Despite being included in the squad for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year, Ruturaj Gaikwad didn't get a call-up to play the five-match T20I series against the Windies. The BCCI has preferred Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, and Shubman Gill for the role of the openers in the upcoming series.
Ruturaj Gaikwad initially debuted for India in the T20I series they played against Sri Lanka in 2021 and also won the orange cap the same year in the IPL. Further, the CSK opener played a T20I game against West Indies and five-match T20I series against South Africa in 2022. Post that, he was never included in the playing XI despite being named in the squad due to Shubman Gill's inclusion.
