The T20 cricket season is underway in several parts of the country and among some big and notable tournaments are the Lanka Premier League and  the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada.

August 4 saw some notable headlines from the sport of cricket as England batter Alex Hales announced retirement from international stage. The English batter took to Instagram to announce his departure after regular discussions with the management over the last nine months in a shocking move. Apart from him, former Nepal captain Gyanendra Malla also called off his career.

 

In another big news which was doing rounds was that the Pakistan Cricket Board are expected to give massive hike to their cricketers. However, the PCB did not confirm on the same, a ESPNcricinfo report read that   Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan could find themselves in the top contract list, named Category A, which is likely to pay them a sum of PKR 4.5 million a month as a retainer, equalling to $15,900 approximately .

 

Smriti Mandhana  also entered record books as the first player in Women’s Hundred to reach 500 runs. It is to be noted that during her career at the Women’s Hundred, the India women’s opener has scored 503 runs in 17 innings thus far.

 

There were a few other news which hogged limelight, one of them being a report surfacing of  Rishabh Pant now facing 140kmph  in the nets at NCA. Looking at the ODI World Cup ahead,  Kane Williamson also joined New Zealand team practice  after rehabilitating from an injury which he sustained during IPL 2023 opener.

 

After India’s 4-run loss against the Caribbean, the two sides were also handed fine for maintaining slow over-rate in the first T20I of the five-match series. Talking about the West Indies vs India first T20I, Tilak Varma, who made a debut in the shortest format also received words of praise from his MI teammate Dewald Brevis in a special video message.
