CM Punk, who is currently ruled out of action in WWE due to a triceps injury suffered at the men’s Royal Rumble, underwent surgery as per the brief update shared on last night’s Raw. But despite that, a few reports have emerged stating that the Second City Saviour could stay involved in WWE programming in a commentary role amidst injury rehab.

As per the report from the Fightful Select, Ace Steel, the former trainer and close friend of CM Punk, who was talking on the upcoming Wrestling Perspective podcast, remarked that WWE wants the former multi-time World Champion to do some commentary work until he makes his return to the ring. But at the same time, he mentioned not wanting to see his friend on commentary or any other on-screen role after CM Punk was taken off WWE TV with a beatdown from Drew McIntyre on his injured right triceps.

Ace Steel also spoke about how a role for him in NXT would be better while CM Punk continues to rehab his torn triceps before returning a few months later to turn his attention towards Drew McIntyre. It should be stated that CM Punk did pull a commentary gig after suffering a hip injury in late 2010, elevating the programming on WWE Raw with his innate charisma and witty humour.

Meanwhile, on the February 5 episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE released a video package about CM Punk’s right triceps injury. In the short clip, the Voice of the Voiceless was in a large arm brace, speaking about how rehab will be one of his toughest challenges in life, while stating his desire to be ready to make one of the greatest comebacks of all time in pro wrestling.
