Former India fielding coach R Sridhar opened up on why Suryakumar Yadav was backed by the management for captaincy role over Hardik Pandya. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sridhar said, “The very fact that Surya is someone who will be on the park for every match India is playing and not being bothered about workload monitoring is something which has tilted the scales in his favour, in terms of captaincy. Some of the matches he has captained India, when Rohit and Hardik were not available, has given confidence to the BCCI that he can do an excellent job.”

The upcoming tour of Bangladesh to Pakistan is likely to be affected amidst the ongoing high-voltage political drama in the country. Notably, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign from her post and she escaped the country. Bangladesh’s senior men’s team is set to play a two-Test away series against Pakistan from August 21. The first Test between the team is scheduled from August 21 to 25, and the other Test is scheduled from August 30 to September 3 in Rawalpindi. However, with such volatile scenes going on in Bangladesh, their upcoming series seems to be in jeopardy. According to NDTV, a source close to PCB informed that the PCB even offered the Bangladesh Cricket Board (PCB) to fly out the Test squad to Rawalpindi at the earliest to ensure that the series is played as scheduled.

Dravid said, “I was with the team for 2.5-3 years, and we came close to winning a big tournament but couldn’t cross the finishing line. We made it to the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup and played the finals of the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup. In those situations, you need a bit of luck, but it didn’t happen. However, we finally managed to win a T20 World Cup, and the luck was with us.”
