The world of football paid tribute to the Manchester United great Sir Bobby Charlton, who passed away at the age of 86. In the other big sporting news, the Indian shuttler PV Sindhu's campaign ended in the Denmark Open 2023 after 2016 Olympic gold medal winner Carolina Marin defeated her in the women's singles semifinal. However, this wasn't it, as both the shuttlers engaged in a verbal spat during the third round of the clash. Manchester United great Sir Bobby Charlton passes away aged 86

England World Cup winner and Manchester United great Sir Bobby Charlton, called 'giant of the game' passed away at the age of 86 on October 21, Saturday. Charlton was a member of the England's victorious 1966 World Cup team and was also a part of the English club to win the European Cup in 1968. Charlton's family announced in a statement, "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was surrounded by his family."

Erik ten Hag remembers Sir Bobby Charlton after Manchester United’s win against Sheffield United

After Manchester United managed to secure a tough 2-1 win against Sheffield United in the Premier League, at the Bramall Lane, the manager Erik ten Hag remembered the club legend Sir Bobby Charlton, who had passed away earlier in the day. The 53-year-old said, “We have to pay our big goodbye and remembering Bobby Charlton. What he did was magnificent. We said before the game about how he was not only outstanding on the pitch but also off the pitch.”

Vinicius Jr. praises Sevilla for ejecting fan for racially abusing him

The Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. has praised Sevilla for ejecting a fan and reporting them to authorities, after he was racially abusing during a 1-1 draw between both the clubs at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. The 23-year-old took to his official Instagram account to send out a message about the incident, the excerpts of which read, “Congratulations to Sevilla for their quick positioning and punishment in yet another sad episode for Spanish football. Unfortunately, I had access to a video of another racist act in this Saturday's match, this time carried out by a child.”

Rory McIlroy, one of the biggest golf players of all time, has talked about his intention to invest in his boyhood club Manchester United, while mentioning the reports of Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to purchase a 25 per cent stake in the Premier League team. The Northern Irishman, who helped Europe win the Ryder Cup against the USA, was quoted as saying, “I would love to be able to own a tiny percentage of the club I grew up cheering on as a boy.”

Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittifaq to offer lucrative deal to Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin: Reports

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Everton and England striker, is reportedly in line to get offered a lucrative deal to join the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard. The 26-year-old has scored three goals in seven matches for Everton in the ongoing 2023-24 season, despite suffering from hamstring and cheekbone injuries, taking his overall tally to 63 goals in 216 matches.

Red Bull's triple champion Max Verstappen defeated Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton in US Grand Prix sprint race from the pole position. Verstappen finished 9.465 seconds ahead of Hamilton, while the third spot was taken by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. After the race, Verstappen said, "Starting P6 is going to be a bit different than today.  But it makes it interesting and hopefully we can have a bit of fun out there tomorrow."

PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin engage in verbal clash during Denmark Open 2023 semifinals; get penalised by chair umpire

Indian ace PV Sindhu and her Spanish counterpart Carolina Marin engaged in a verbal feud during the Denmark Open 2023 semifinals. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu locked horns with her 2016 Rio Olympics final rival for the final berth of Denmark Open Super 750 tournament in Odense on Saturday, October 21. Both shuttlers had won one round each, before Sindhu was completely outplayed in the final round.

Not only this, but Marin and Sindhu engaged in a verbal fight in the deciding round before the chair umpire showed a yellow card to both. Sindhu’s campaign in the tournament came to an end after losing the final round, and thus the match with 18-21, 21-19, 7-21 scoreline.

India to participate in Asian Para Games 2023 with its largest ever contingent

The 2023 season of Asian Para Games is set to kick off in Hangzhou, the Republic of China from October 22 to October 28. It will be the largest-ever Indian contingent, consisting of 303 athletes along with 143 officials that will participate in the tournament. After India’s remarkable and historic performance in the 19th Asian Games, the Indian para contingent will be eyeing for another notable performance in the forthcoming continental event.
