Malaysian footballer Faisal 'Mickey' Halim suffers acid attack

In a tragic turn of events, Malaysian national footballer, Faisal 'Mickey' Halim fell victim to an acid attack at a shopping mall over the weekend. The incident occurred in  Petaling Jaya district outside the capital Kuala Lumpur, according to Najwan Halimi, a sports official in Selangor state.  In the aftermath of this attack, Halim suffered second-degree burns on the neck, shoulder, hands and chest.

President of France, Emmanuel Macron confirmed Kylian Mbappe's intentions to play in this summer's Olympic Games in Paris.  "I found myself on the pitch with his father last week and I asked him the question," Macron told La Tribune Dimanche. "He told me, '[Mbappe] wants to do the Olympics'.  I really hope that all European clubs will give this freedom to their players. I am pleased that all French clubs are doing this and I hope that the others will follow. That's the Olympic spirit."

He is going to be sold: Vitor Roque's agent on Brazilian's youngster future in Barca

The agent of Barcelona striker Vitor Roque,  Andre Cury,  has threatened to find a permanent transfer for the 19-year-old based on Xavi's treatment of the young forward. Speaking to  RAC1, Cury said,  "A loan? No. Either the player stays to be given minutes to prove himself or, if the club decides that he cannot stay, he is going to be sold. There are interested teams, many of them.  I do not know what is going to happen. The club have never told me anything. In my opinion, they can give him more minutes. Xavi gives them to Fermin [Lopez], [Pau] Cubarsi, and Lamine [Yamal] but not Vitor. I don't know how to explain it. They conceded many goals against Girona and Real Madrid."

West Ham are set to sign former Sevilla and Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui and replace Scotsman David Moyes as manager.  Lopetegui managed a club since his Wolves exit before the 2023/24 season but has continued to live in England in a bid to return to Premier League management.  The 57-year-old, who has also managed Porto, Spain and Real Madrid throughout an illustrious career, will take charge of the Hammers at the end of the season after Moyes' expected departure.

Australian Open 2024 winner Jannik Sinner has expressed doubt about participating in the French Open, citing fitness issues. The world number two shared he will only compete at Roland Garros if he fully recovers from a hip issue that forced him out of Madrid and Rome. The second Grand Slam of the year is set to kick off on May 26. Sinner said,  "At Roland Garros, I'll only play if I'm 100% if there's any doubt we have to see," Sinner told reporters.  "Some injuries can be prevented, some can't. So far we've done a great job, last year I played a whole season without injuries and also in this season so far."

Andrey Rublev beats Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6 7-5 7-5 to win Madrid Open 2024

Russia's Andrey Rublev took down Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6 7-5 7-5 in the final of the Madrid Open on Sunday. With this triumph, Rublev won his second Masters 1000 title. Reacting to this victory, Rublev said,  "No words, if you knew what I've been through in the last nine days, you wouldn't imagine that I would be able to win a title... Last six weeks I was losing in the first rounds," Rublev said.  "I was (close to pulling out) because there were few issues I couldn't fix, but I have to give full credit to the doctors. They were magical and did some tricky things... Somehow I was able to play. I've never seen this in my life."

Lando Norris registered his maiden Formula One win at the Miami Grand Prix, pipping three-time back-to-back champion Max Verstappen and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Speaking about this victory,   “I never lost faith, I never didn’t believe in what I could go out and do,” Norris said. “So happy to put that to bed and prove a lot of these people wrong, because as much as I love to see it and I go on Instagram and I like all the comments of people abusing me, I freaking love it, it makes me smile more than anything, especially ‘Lando No-wins’.

Canelo Alvarez defeats M unguia with unanimous decision in Las Vegas

Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez took down J aime Munguia in Las Vegas and  retained his titles with a unanimous victory.  Alvarez scored 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112 from the three judges to seal the win, dropping his compatriot to the canvas in the fourth round which was the first knockdown of Munguia's career.  Talking about this win, Alvarez said, "Jaime Munguia is a great fighter. He's strong, he's smart. But I take my time. I have 12 rounds to win the fight and I did. I did really good and I feel proud about it."
