Neeraj Chopra finishes second in Lausanne Diamond League; records season’s best throw of 89.49m

India’s Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra secured second spot in the Lausanne Diamond League 2024. The 2024 Paris Olympics silver medallist recorded the second-best performance of 89.49m. Chopra was on the fourth spot till the fourth round and saved his best for the last and recorded a monstrous throw of 89.49m. Earlier in the fifth attempt, the former Olympic champion threw a distance of 85.58m. The throw that gave him second podium finish proved to be his second-best throw ever. Chopra surpassed the 89.45m attempt at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Ons Jabeur withdraws from US Open due to shoulder injury

On Thursday, August 22, Tunisian Ons Jabeur withdrew her name from the US Open, the  final Grand Slam of the 2024 season, due to a shoulder injury. In an emotional post on her official Instagram account, the 29-year-old thanked everyone for their support during her tough time before vowing to come back stronger on the WTA Tour. During the 2024 season, Ons Jabeur has been grappling with multiple injuries, stopping her from playing a few tournaments all over the world. Earlier in the month, she was unable to play in the Citi Open due to the right shoulder injury.

Brady is considered as a legend of the National football league (NFL) and is likely to come with a new venture where he could collaborate with Speed and Ronaldo which could turn out to be a treat for the fans. He was recently seen along with Speed in his YouTube channel ‘Live Speedy’ as they both discussed collaborating with Ronaldo in the near future. 

UEFA release new Champions League anthem for 2024-25 season; fans criticise “bad” changes

UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe, released a new and updated version of the   Champions League anthem ahead of the 2024-25 season, set to be played under a new format. But, the changes to the UCL anthem hasn’t been welcomed by most of the fans in an enthusiastic manner, instead some of them were blunt in calling it “bad.” Notably, the iconic UEFA Champions League (UCL) anthem is an adaptation of the 1727 classical piece “Zadok the Priest,” written by George Frideric Handel. It was done by Tony Britten in 1992, but now, ahead of the new UCL season in 2024-25, kicking off on September 17, UEFA has subtly changed it up, putting more focus on the vocals.

AFC Challenge League: Thimphu to host matches of East Bengal in Group A

The Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu will host the Group A matches of East Bengal in the upcoming AFC Challenge League from October 26th to November 1st. East Bengal are returning to Asian club football after 2015 by winning the 2024 Kalinga Super Cup. The AFC Challenge League will consist of five groups with three groups consisting of four teams from the West and two groups consisting of three teams from the East. The Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu will also host home matches of Paro FC from Group A.

Bayern Munich overruled Vincent Kompany to sell Matthijs de Ligt to Man United

Bayern Munich reportedly decided to sell Netherlands international Matthijs de Ligt despite the team manager Vincent Kompany wanting him to stay. The head coach of Bayern Munich even conveyed to the Dutch player that he was his "Number One" defender, but the club officials decided to let him go to Manchester United regardless. The report further reveals that Matthijs de Ligt’s camp felt that the Bavarians were playing games in regards to whether he would stay or leave the club. Matthijs de Ligt started on the bench when the English club Manchester United played against Fulham last weekend in the Premier League. 

Manchester City re-sign Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona on one-year contract

On Friday, August 23, Manchester City signed former captain Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona on a one-year contract with an option to extend it by a further 12 months. After leaving Manchester City on a free transfer to Barcelona in 2023, the 33-year-old is going to make his return to the Etihad, where he achieved a lot of success during the peak of his career. During his first stint lasting seven years at Manchester City, Ilkay Gundogan won 14 trophies including Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and the UEFA Champions League. The German was the first signing of Pep Guardiola at the English club back in 2016, and in his 304 appearances, he scored 60 goals.

The young paddler who played a significant role in guiding the women’s table-tennis side to their first-ever Olympics quarterfinal, opened up on her decision and revealed that she wants to serve India in some other way. The 24-year-old is pursuing her Masters in Public Policy at the University of Michigan in the USA, and is quite excited to be re-entering her student life.
