Coco Gauff named USA’s female flagbearer for Paris Olympics

American tennis star  Coco Gauff was named flag bearer for the US Olympic team at the Summer Games opening ceremony in Paris. The US Open 2023 winner joins basketball legend LeBron James, who was named the male flagbearer for the ceremony.  Gauff becomes the first tennis player to be selected as the Opening ceremonies flag bearer, an honour voted on by fellow Olympic athletes and team captains.

French Alps to host 2030 Winter Olympics, confirms IOA

With the 2024 Paris Olympics just days away from starting, the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday, July 24 confirmed that the French Alps will host the next 2030 Winter Olympics. Moreover, this confirmation from the IOC comes after French President, Emmanuel Macron vouched his full support.  This decision from the ICC was announced after Macron pledged to the IOC members that the incoming Prime Minister would offer a “guarantee” for hosting the event. 

Australian polo player isolated after testing positive for COVID-19 ahead of Paris Olympics 2024

J ust days ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the French capital has been hit with Coronavirus. An unnamed member of the Australian water polo team has been quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by Anna Meares, the head of the nation’s Olympic contingent on Tuesday, July 23.  Meares, however, refrained from disclosing the identity of the athlete but asserted that all individuals who had been in close contact with the affected athlete were also under observation and undergoing tests.

Tour de France champ Tadej Pogacar pulls out of Paris 2024 citing fatigue

The three-time Tour de France champion, Tadej Pogacar, pulled out of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games citing “fatigue,” as per the Slovenian Olympic Committee (OKS) on Monday, July 22. The 25-year-old, who won the Tour de France last week in Nice to complete the tournament and Giro d’Italia double in 2024, will be replaced by Domen Novak in the Slovenian cycling team. But, as per the report from Sportstar, Tadej Pogacar isn’t happy about his girlfriend and fellow cyclist Urska Zigart not getting picked for the Slovenian women’s team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Audi appoints Ex-Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto as new F1 boss

Former Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto has been appointed as the chief operating and chief technical officer of Audi F1. The German car manufacturer will make its debut in Formula 1 in 2026, with an all-new power unit.  The 54-year-old Italian will assume his role on August 1 at the Sauber factory in Hinwil, Switzerland, and will report directly to the board of directors. With Binotto's appointment, major restricting took place at Audi which saw the exit of former McLaren Team Principal Andreas Seidl who joined Sauber in January 2023 and was CEO of the Audi team.
